Mall of America Knit Out Crochet Too 2009

This post should have gone up a few days ago, by my web host had some issues.  So just a quick reminder that Valentines weekend is the big [tag]Mall of America[/tag] [tag]Knit Out & Crochet Too [/tag]event.  The days and times are:

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 10 AM – 5 PM

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 11 AM – 5 PM

This event started by the[tag] Craft Yarn Council of America[/tag] (CYCA) with the help of volunteers to bring knitting, crocheting and yarn crafts to the public’s attention.

One of the special guests at this years event is a favorite author and knitter, [tag]Debbie Macomber[/tag]. Debbie writes books involving her hobby of knitting and also has pattern books published by Leisure Arts that were written using patterns from her friends and her books.

For the first time at Knit-Out, they will present two in-depth Super Seminars. These two-hour classes will be held in a meeting room off of the Mall floor. The classes will be Textural Stitches in Crochet with [tag]Barbara Van Elsen[/tag]. You will earn popcorns, bobbles and puff stitches, then bullion stitches and limpets, both so popular in free form crochet. And stitches named for sea creatures, like lobster cord and crab stitch (reverse crochet). You’ll learn how to make them all, how to tell them apart and how best to use them, both in the body of your work and as edgings, while making a sampler that you can take home for reference.

The second class is Combination Knitting with [tag]Annie Modesitt[/tag]. You will discover how even and smooth your knitting can look when you try combination knitting. Christened “Combination Knitting” by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts writing in the Fall 2000 Interweave Knits magazine, it’s a technique that Annie uses for knitting and purling with amazing results. As the name implies, it’s a combination of the Western or German/American/English style of knitting and Eastern/Islamic knitting.

There will also be two days of 45 minute long demos, book authors, yarn manufacturers, and Beyond the Basics Workshops. Beyond the Basics Workshops is another new offering at Knit-Out. It’s designed for knitters and crocheters who have mastered the very basic knit stitch or single crochet and want to learn more techniques.

I couldn’t think of a better place to spend Valentine’s weekend then at a knitting event held at a shopping mall! Wonderful planning!

Ravelry-What a time sucker!!!

So, I’m a member of [tag]Ravelry[/tag] and loading my projects, stash, books, favorite patterns, joining groups, and all that goes on there. I could spend all day and not even touch the surface of what it contains.

I need to get this under control, just like I need to get my craft room/computer room/sewing room/office under control.

Boston Knit Out Cancelled

This is posted on the [tag]Boston Knit Out and Crochet Too Blog[/tag]. It’s really sad that there was a short-fall of funds.
“It is with great regret that the [tag]Boston Knit Out & Crochet, Inc.[/tag] announces the cancellation of this year’s event due to insufficient funds. We would like to thank all the volunteers who have given their time and effort to bring the organization this far and hope you will join us in our efforts to bring the event back in 2009.

Any vendors and sponsors who have given funds for the 2007 event will be offered the opportunity to have this money returned to them. Boston Knit Out & Crochet, Inc. is still a 501(c)3 non profit and will continue to accept donations to support our next event in 2009.”

The Boston Knit-Out & Crochet Too is an annual event educating the public about the crafts of knitting and crochet through lessons, demonstrations, displays, and resources. Enthusiasts of all skill levels and those who are simply curious are welcome. Knitting and crochet have become a popular pastime for men and women of all ages, backgrounds, and professions, who seek a return to simplicity and a way to reduce stress. Needlecraft groups have become a hip social outlet for urban- and suburbanites alike. The first Knit-Out was held nine years ago by [tag]The Craft Yarn Council of America[/tag] in New York City, and the event has since spread to Boston, Washington, D.C. and several other cities across the U.S.
